NBA game action

Miami recorded 86 first-half scores against the Grizzlies

Miami Heat earned a decisive 146-114 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies in their first basketball match after player Terry Rozier was arrested over alleged unlawful sports betting.

Trail Blazers head coach Billups was also arrested as part of a broad federal probe into illegal gambling. The two individuals deny the claims.

But, the Heat were not distracted as they scored eighty-six first-half points to lead the Grizzlies by thirty-nine at halftime, the largest halftime lead in the franchise's 37-year existence.

Adebayo top-scored with 24 points and afterwards said Terry had the support of the team.

"We stand behind him. Complete backing," Bam said. "We are with him all the way. That's our brother at the end of the day."

Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra added: "Terry is a person who is important to everyone. He's had a real positive impact on our locker room.

"We send our thoughts and our care for him as he faces the situation."

The Trail Blazers also won their first game since the detentions, with Brazilian Tiago Splitter taking over as temporary head coach in Billups' absence and guiding the squad to a convincing 139-119 win against the Golden State Warriors.

"Everyone experienced positive times with Chauncey and how he coached," Splitter said. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

NBA Commissioner Silver 'Disturbed' by Arrests

Speaking about the detentions for the initial occasion, league head Silver stated he was "very upset" by the incidents of the past few days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and supporters than the fairness of the competition," he informed a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."

Silver also mentioned an NBA investigation into Rozier's conduct in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he played for the Charlotte Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.

"We were informed by the authorities and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We then looked into the matter and were open about it. And while there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, found no evidence.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can take various actions that the league office can't do.

"So, we've been working with them from that point. And, of course, what they revealed yesterday was an indictment.

"Moreover two and a half years later, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in justice to Rozier.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance in this case between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
