The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer appropriate to voice opinions against the Trump government, worried it could worsen unhelpful debate and further divisions throughout the country.
In a recent interview, the Oscar winner commented, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was running around without clear direction. But experience has shown, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars fail to influence whatsoever on voter decisions.”
The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the nation apart.”
Jennifer Lawrence has previously been open about voting for both conservative and liberal presidential nominees throughout her life. Raised by Republican parents in Kentucky, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democratic party and revealing she realized during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was voting against her own rights as a woman.
Earlier in her career, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency would be “a catastrophic event” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “because I feel she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will take all necessary steps to protect women’s health rights.”
Jennifer Lawrence was joined by most of Hollywood in her rejection of Trump as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact celebrities have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“Another four years appears changed,” said the actress regarding his administration. “Because he made his plans clear. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”
Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she portrays a young mom who deals with her mental health in a remote area. During a press conference for the film in Venice, Lawrence spoke about the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s mortifying. What’s occurring is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
The actress elaborated by saying that she was disappointed by “the lack of civility in the discourse of the political landscape right now and how that is going to be commonplace to the children right now. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”
She aimed to shift anger about the situation to decision-makers rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she remarked, seen by observers as a nod to the recent commitment endorsed by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to avoid Israeli film institutions.
The actor, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her role in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her performance in her latest project. Although Ramsay has rejected the plot being interpreted as one of postpartum depression and psychosis, Lawrence revealed that she connected with aspects of her character’s journey after the birth of her new baby, soon after shooting ended.
“It was fear regarding my baby,” she commented, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a drug called Zurzuvae and I used it for a short period and it made a difference.”
Lawrence also discussed regarding the freeing requirement of completing nude scenes in the film while she was some months pregnant and unable to exercise.
“It feels nice,” she said, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
