The Everton midfielder was given a warm ovation from his fellow squad members after delivering an explanation for his shocking dismissal during the recent victory at Manchester United.
Gueye became the initial Premier League player to be sent off for striking a teammate in 17 years when he struck his defensive colleague during the match. Everton's performance was heroic as they competed with a man down for the majority of the game, including stoppage time, to achieve David Moyes' first win at Old Trafford as a away coach in 18 attempts.
'I want to apologise first to Michael Keane,' he wrote on his accounts. 'I accept complete responsibility for my actions.'
The Senegalese international was unable to secure an opportunity to converse with the manager or his colleagues at the interval. Following the match, with the away dressing room celebrating after the 1-0 win, the veteran asked to speak to the entire group and the defender in particular.
Gueye may yet be punished by the club despite Moyes' statement that he likes his team members competing with each other. Moyes has a regular punishment process for red and yellow cards, including financial penalties, which is likely to be applied in Gueye's case.
Everton may find themselves without their key player until the new year. The Senegalese international will complete a three-game ban against Newcastle, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest but might be called up for Africa Cup of Nations responsibilities by Senegal before he can return to play against Chelsea on 13 December.
'Emotions can run high,' Gueye continued. 'However, there's no excuse for such conduct.'
Meanwhile, the Manchester United defender accused United of showing no immediacy in the recent defeat, which halted their winning streak at five games.
United travel to Crystal Palace for Sunday's noon kickoff. 'Our upcoming match is absolutely crucial,' commented the defender. 'We have to bounce back from this performance.'
