Rob Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial candidates in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday after the team's 10-match winless start to the top-flight campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town head coach - who made more than 100 of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of hiring a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, although he would be a surprising choice given he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed which means the club would not need to provide any compensation.
