Comeback Medvedev Claims First Championship in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid season, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents his first title since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since March of that year.

Success also means he has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 various events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet defended four initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
