The British boxer Anthony Joshua has been released from care, Nigerian authorities stated on late Wednesday. The 36-year-old was involved in a car accident outside Lagos on the 29th of December, a devastating event that resulted in the deaths of two of his team members.
The sports star had remained in the hospital while recovering from minor injuries, his promoter confirmed on Monday. The commissioner for information and strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement online that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to “recuperate at home”.
“Joshua and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two departed friends as they were being made ready for the journey back,” the commissioner stated.
The victims of the crash were confirmed to be Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. It was also noted that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and deeply emotional over the tragic loss of his two trusted companions.”
The news of his discharge comes as the global fight fans offered condolences for the fighter in the wake of the heartbreaking incident.
