A American-Palestinian teenager who spent a nine-month period in imprisonment by Israel without charge has been freed.
The teenager Mohammed Ibrahim was 15 when he was arrested this past winter in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, where he was visiting while residing in Florida accused of stone-throwing against settlement residents, allegations he repeatedly contested.
The US state department expressed satisfaction with Mohammed's liberation.
Mohammed, now 16, was taken to hospital for treatment immediately after release, relatives told the media.
Family described him as showing signs of malnutrition, while battling health issues developed during imprisonment.
Via family representatives, the youth's uncle spoke of the family's "tremendous relief".
Zeyad Kadur described how relatives endured "living a horrific and endless nightmare" during the entire detention period.
"Currently, we are focused on providing Mohammed with prompt healthcare necessary for his recovery after being subjected to Israel's abuse and brutal treatment over several months."
US officials stated they would maintain to provide consular support to the teenager's relatives.
{"American leadership gives utmost importance than the safety and security of American nationals"," the department emphasized.
A group of American legislators submitted a formal letter to diplomatic officials and President Donald Trump, urging greater action to secure his release.
Mohammed's parent, a father-of-four who runs an ice cream business from Florida, had earlier stated Mohammed acknowledged allegations regarding stone throwing due to physical abuse.
The father hadn't visited nor direct contact since February, learning information solely what had happened to him in detention through court documents.
The teenager remained lacking indictment at Ofer detention facility throughout the occupied territory.
The facility also contains mature inmates, some of whom have been convicted of serious terrorism offences and murder.
There are around 350 Palestinian child security detainees detained within Israeli facilities, per correctional service statistics.
Numerous remain uncharged and human rights groups, as well as the United Nations, document cases involving mistreatment and torture.
After the teenager's freedom, the uncle stated the family would also continue fighting for justice for his cousin their cousin Sayfollah.
